When you breathe deeply and fully, your body stays calm. You may still be a bit tense, but your relaxed breathing can protect you from an anxiety attack. In an anxiety attack, you may have a tendency to hyperventilate, which increases the level of panic you experience. However, deep breathing keeps you in control.

When you hyperventilate, you take short, quick breaths in the top part of your lungs. Your chest expands, but you aren’t getting the full amount of air that you need to remain calm. The quick overload of oxygen you receive from shallow breathing makes your apprehension and panic even worse. It becomes a cycle that can be hard to break without practice.

The Most Beneficial Way To Breathe
Any time you can concentrate on breathing fully – all the way down to your abdomen – you’ll improve your relaxation response to stressful situations. If your chest is rising with each breath, you’re not expanding your lungs to full capacity. Your body lacks the oxygen it needs to thrive under the pressure of the moment.

Place a hand just above your belly button and breathe. If you’re breathing deeply, your hand will rise and fall with each breath.

Practice breathing slowly by taking full, deep breaths. You might feel a bit strange at first because you’re not used to it. You may even feel a bit giddy, but that’s normal. It’ll pass with practice.

You’re getting plenty of air, even if you don’t feel like you are. Your lungs can expand without your upper chest rising. Only your upper belly needs to rise and fall. At first, you probably won’t breathe this way unless you’re thinking about it because you’re so conditioned to breathe from your chest. Keep practicing often, and you’ll soon be breathing properly all the time.

How Breathing Affects Anxiety
Anxiety may be caused by a chemical imbalance in the brain. It may simply be the product of over-active nerves that react too strongly to stimuli. However, regardless of what causes you to feel anxious, the most important thing is to alleviate it and reduce the degree to which it affects your life. Anxiety doesn’t have to stop you from living the life you deserve.

By lowering your anxiety, you may be able to:

* Change careers or get promoted
* Speak in front of others without fear
* Travel to places you’ve always wanted to see
* Embark on a new relationship or business venture
* Reduce your dependency on medication or therapy

If you’re contemplating reducing any medication or therapy you’re currently using, consult your physician before making any changes to your established regimen. But you can still start deep breathing right away. There are no side effects, as this type of breathing is natural and healthy. And it’s something that everyone can learn and benefit from.

If you struggle with worry, you can feel more relaxed and in control by simply controlling your breathing. Begin practicing deep breathing strategies today and experience peace in the midst of the storms of your life!

As a young entrepreneur, Makena knows the value of giving back to the community.  She has assisted the Mooney Twins, the Sons of Paul Mooney with creating a market for finacial empowerment workshops in San Diego.  The Mooney Twins who are Daryl and Duane Mooney are the Founders of Mooney Twins Millions a financial leadership group.  The goal is help educate African Americans on Financial Opportunities.

Besides her passion of event planning, she also likes coordinating activities for African American girls.  She co-founded the Butterfly Images Rites of Passage Program years ago while working as a social worker.  She has done workshops for San Diego State University African Student Union High School conference designed to connect young African-American girls with their inner beauty and intelligence.

Spring provides something outwardly soothing to focus on. But you can also maintain inner tranquility, even if the things around you are going crazy. Everyone is different, but that springtime feeling can be a part of your experience in any season of life.

Keeping Peace Inside Your Home
Your home is the place you come to unwind after a long, stressful day. Whether you live alone or with others, you want your home to invite you in to relax and feel at peace.

When you live with others, you may feel a lack of serenity when you come home. Your family’s noise, a rambunctious pet, or too much clutter can cloud your mind and keep you from the harmony you deserve. Find a room where you can be by yourself to relax and rejuvenate. Insist that others respect this private space.

If you have small children, establishing a private space for yourself can be a challenge. A room to yourself (with a door you can lock) is ideal. You can recapture the peace in your home, though, even if all you have is a small corner of a room that is all your own.

Peace comes from what’s around you, but it also comes from inside you. Inner stillness is something that you choose to keep, and only you can choose to give it away.

In order to help you practice peace, try these suggestions:

* Breathe deeply from your abdomen to relax your mind and body.
* Listen to soft, calming music that you enjoy.
* Play a game that alleviates stress.
* Watch a funny movie and laugh out loud.
* Eat something soothing (in moderation) like chocolate or ice cream.
* Cuddle with a soft blanket, stuffed animal, pet or a sleeping child.
* Use room sprays or candles that make your surroundings smell pleasant.
* Drink a cup of mint tea or another calming drink.

Keeping Peace Elsewhere – Taking It With You
Remember that peace is a choice. Stressful situations occur from time to time. How you respond determines the level of serenity you feel inside.

The quiet relaxation of spring can be yours in any season. Take a few deep breaths and stop for a moment to notice the beauty around you. If things around you are chaotic, it’s okay. They’re only things around you. They aren’t you.

The chaos that surrounds you can only overcome the harmony within you if you allow it to do so. You can feel peaceful when the rest of the world appears to be falling apart. With a little practice, you can easily keep your peace in any situation. Soon, you’ll find that the peace of spring is with you all year long.

Input from your family and friends can be vital to helping you make big decisions, but you are the one who has to live with the outcome. Those decisions should be the right decisions for you above all else. But how do you make those decisions? Here are three questions to ask when you’re facing important choices.

Whose Idea Is It?
Consider the source of the ideas on the table. Are they yours, or are they from family and friends? Accepting someone else’s solution without your input may lead to a decision that you’ll regret later. If you aren’t sure what you really want, stop and figure that out before you make the decision.

You’re the master of your own destiny, and input from others is no substitute for your own feelings about the issue. Others may have your best interests at heart, but those people aren’t you. They don’t know everything about your situation. And only you really know what’s best for you.

Who Will Suffer the Consequences of a Bad Decision?
When you get conflicting options form other people about a decision, think about how each option will affect you. It’s easy to advise others when you’re not the one who’ll suffer the consequences of a bad choice. Take control of your destiny by choosing the results you deserve.

Consider how each option affects your heart, mind, and spirit. How will the choice affect your happiness and peace? It’s important to consider others, but not at the expense of your needs and feelings.

Also, what are the long-term consequences of your options? Some choices may have an instant payoff that evaporates quickly. Strive to make decisions that have positive outcomes in both the short and long term.

How Does the Decision Feel to You?
Once you’ve come to a final decision, reflect on the path you’ve chosen. Does it make you feel peaceful inside, or does it cause you to struggle with feelings of doubt and uncertainty? Decisions that bring you peace are often the best choice.

Instead of making decisions that only bring physical happiness or instant gratification, look for options that provide the greatest fulfillment for the longest amount of time.

These decisions should:

* Give you joy instead of only temporary pleasure
* Make you happy for the long term
* Be worth working for
* Resonate with your spirit
* Feel like you’re doing the right thing
* Cause no harm to others

If any option you’re considering fails to meet all of these criteria, it probably falls short of the ideal choice for you. What you choose is up to you, but your decisions will ultimately affect both you and others. So it’s important to mull over your options carefully.

Consider the opinions of others, but ultimately listen to your heart and make choices that resonate with your spirit. If you do, you’ll make the right decision for you and experience the happiness you deserve.

1. Keep the work at work. Resist the temptation to bring work home with you. If you’re facing pressing deadlines or a pile of work that keeps growing, taking work home seems like the easiest way to get it all done. Unfortunately, though, taking work home often means saying no to vital family time.

* Often, the heavy workload is part of the territory. At other times, you can ease your workload by opting out of unnecessary projects or unreasonable demands.

* Try delegating the tasks that can be done by others so you’re free to do the most important aspects of your job.

* Other times, poor planning can cause you to spend more time on tasks than is really necessary. This may cause you to get behind and feel the need to bring work home. Take a few minutes in the morning to plan your day effectively, make a to-do list arranged by priority, and then cross off your tasks as you complete them.

* Show your family that you value them by saying no when appropriate, delegating when possible, and taking time to organize your work before you begin. You’ll feel less stressed and get more done, too.

2. Limit your hours. Staying late at the office is a lot like coming home with work. If possible, commit to reasonable office hours and leave when it’s time to clock out. Your family time will support your success at the office because you’ll feel less stressed and experience greater productivity in the time you spend at work.

3. Go to work early. Instead of staying at the office late and missing family time, consider arriving early if you have to catch up on work. While you only want to do this occasionally, it can be the perfect compromise that promotes balance in your life. Arrive home on time for family time, and you work extra hours in the morning when everyone’s still asleep.

4. Put your family first. Just as you make appointments that support your working career, why not make appointments that prioritize your family and encourage balance? Schedule in date nights, play time with the kids, or whatever suits your lifestyle. That way, when the calendar starts to become crowded with work, your family doesn’t get crowded out.

Most of your day may be spent at work, but the most rewarding experiences of your life often occur during family time. Use these strategies to balance your life and experience more of the memories that make life worthwhile. If you make your family a priority, you’ll be rewarded with greater productivity at work, a sense of peace, and deeper relationships within your family.

One way to resolve the overwhelm of consistent blogging is to hire a Virtual Assistant to manage your blog.
