Kicking and screaming, I haled my little boy through the store until I couldn’t keep hold of him anymore. I put him down and tried to reason with him but he was still flailing. Then it was MY turn to snap. I popped him in the butt and all fell silent. I mean ALL. My son was silent, the man that was walking in front of me gasped and held his breath with a bit “O” shape on his mouth; the people at the register stopped to look.

These are all things that people tell you when you’re going through a crisis and they are trying to fill an uncomfortable silence. I’m not the type of person to really complain or commiserate. I generally keep smiling and keep moving when challenged with adversity. But I’m learning a humbling lesson lately that has my good nature in a head lock.
